St. Louis Showdown - 6/27/09
The St. Louis Showdown was organized to be the family get away.  Some
folks started on Thursday and headed to St. Louis.  On Friday (even in the
blistering hot weather) many went to Six Flags.  Some brave souls stayed at
Six Flags till they closed. Several families went to the St. Louis zoo on Friday
and said it was wonderful.  The evenings had lots of swimming at the hotel
and fellowship.  Seems like everywhere you looked around St. Louis that
weekend you ran into people you know and compete with in the MMASC.
It's always nice to be around friends when you are traveling.

Top Mount Martial Arts of West Plains Missouri had a three hour drive, but
still managed to take Top School, with Ozzies Crew coming in close second.
These are some very dedicated and serious tournament competitors.

The tournament had about a 40% increase of competitors compared to the
last tournament Mr. David Frazier had.  The gym was large and
accommodated all the competitors and spectators well.

Saturday night a large group went to dinner and then more swimming and
fellowship.  We didn't stop here.  Sunday morning we geared up again and
ended up with approximately 120 MMASC folks going to the St. Louis
Cardinals Ball Game, vs. the Twins.  That was really awesome. (A few of us
located a great area at the ball park with ceiling fans, a cool breeze, good
food and lots of laughs that made the ball game more special.) MMASC
opted to make the St Louis trip a replacement for the Kentucky trip we use
to take once a year at a fraction of the cost.  It was really nice seeing so
many families at the tournament and enjoying time together.

The chase is on for the 2009 points Championship.
Battle of the Queen City - 7/25/09
The Battle of the Queen City was another huge MMASC success.  Breaking
attendance records over last year, nearly 200 competitors and numerous
spectators crowed the floor of the OASIS Convention Center.

This year brought many new faces
to the competition as well as the
familiar regulars.  Competitors
traveled from Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Kansas, Iowa and Georgia, making
this event one of the highest in
quality of competitors.

The competition was incredible,
confirming the MMASC is attracting
the best of the best.   The entire day was full of talent and action, from
Musicals to the Black Belt Sparring.  The new faces encouraged the
regulars to step up their game and brought out some new champions.

In a very tight race, Top School went to Sensei Mann and Top Mount Martial
Arts of West Plains MO.

Showdown in J-Town - 8/22/09
The Joplin Memorial Hall was filled with over 500 excited competitors and
spectators on August 22, 2009.  Master Ray Kellison did a great job in
providing a first class  facility and event.

Several  new groups were present,  Ray Hildreth's crew from Tulsa,
Oklahoma,  Mike Harris' , Bullpen Fight Club from Mt. Vernon,  Johnny
Castillo's team from Wichita, Kansas and Mr. Lieker's team, Ameri-Kick from
Kansas City, Missouri.  With so many new and very talented competitors
present, the action was non-stop.  As with all MMASC events, it got started
right on time with Musicals beginning at 9:00 am. Mr. Kellison gave away
Nintendo DSI's, Visio flat screen TVs and $200 Cash to the 9 Grand
Champion Winners.  You could just imagine the smiles this produced.

Top School Award went to Richard Osborn Sr. with "Ozzies Crew" with a
close second from Mr. Mann from Top Mount Martial Arts. The traveling
over-all Top School award for the 2009 season is still up for grabs.  It's
going to be a battle!

Likewise with the points races in the divisions!  There are so many tight
division races right now with only three tournaments to go!  Where has this
year gone?  You know what they say... Time flies when you're having fun!

Congratulations to Ray Kellison for having  more grapplers at this event
than any other MMASC  tournament.   The tournament concluded around
2:30 pm.   Lots of praise and congrats were passed on as the folks mingled
out of the hall, as if some didn't really want the day to end.  As you can
expect,  there were some very hungry folks by this time with a desire to
continue the fellowship.   Nearly 70 competitors, friends and family went to
Ryan's for a late lunch to top the tournament day off.  (Someone said the
management had to close down the buffet after we left...go figure?).
