The MMASC Annual Banquet held again at the OASIS Inn and Convention
Center in Springfield, Missouri.  Even with over 300 in attendance for the
banquet, this event did not lack a feeling of family.  Family portraits were
taken by the in-house professional photographer and shown around with
their evening wear.  Not to mention the fact these martial artist were being
MicKenzy McCarter (Karate Zone)  and Jacquline Riley and Ashlee Emerson
(AMA Dojo) were fantastic.  The demo team, Ignite, from Arkansas, included
a great message of peace and unity.  A great thanks to them all!

This year the Hall of Fame recipients were split into three categories:
Junior, Old Timers and Current.  Junior Recipents are:  MicKenzey
McCarter, Katie Carr, Darrin Walters, Matt Sweeten, Foster Thompson,

and Ozzies Crew of Springfield.
Sensei Gary Mann ended up with
the traveling trophy to keep in
his school for the year!  Great job
To Mr. Mann and his students for
being such a huge part of the
M.M.A.S.C. in 2008!

Promoter, Mick Sweeten presented Joe Osborn with a leather MMASC
jacket.  He had the jacket special made just for Mr. Osborn to commemorate
his time and support he shows to all MMASC members and families.  Mr.
Osborn always has a smile and kind word for everyone.

Promoter, Ken Franck, presented Trey Jones with an honorable Black Belt
from his school.

Promoter, Grand Master Richard Osborn, presented Mr. Ray Kellison his
4th and 5th Degree Black Belt certificates.  His certificate was signed and
witnessed by all the promoters.  Congratulations Master Kellison!

The Award Ceremony went well.  All first place competitors in attendance
received their MMASC pull-over and plaque.  2nd through 10th place
winners were awarded a plaque for each division they won.

Well as usual, the food was great, the company even better.  But wow, did
the door prizes ever seem to be popular.  This year there were 10 tables full
of prizes.  Two Flat Screen TV’s with DVD players, two DVD players, 6 bikes,
14kt Gold Necklace and bracelet, gift cards for gas and restaurants,  and a
Grand Father Clock were among the favorites of the hundreds of prizes
given out this evening.  It took more than an hour to hand out the door
prizes.  What fun!

The evening concluded around 9:30 pm, just in time for swimming and more
fellowship.  Wow, what a great evening.
M.M.A.S.C. Annual Awards Banquet & Dinner - 2/27/09
Missouri Nationals Open Karate Tournament - 2/28/09
The doors to this annual tournament opened at 8 am as usual, but there
was a big change in what happened next.  Nearly 300 competitors walked
through those doors in less than 1 hour.  This tournament has been
running for over 25 years, and this turn out was an all time record for
cannot remember any one tournament in the area to feature this volume
of top competitors in years!

Of course, with such top notch competition, why wouldn't any martial artist
want to attend such a great event.  Brian Ruth of Atlanta, Todd Brown of
Oklahoma and Justin Gray, also of Oklahoma were here strutting their
stuff.  I don't think any of them felt there was a walk over here in the
Ozarks.

The junior divisions were full to capacity.  Karate Flag had over 50
competitors as well as the Weapons division.  Grappling is a new curiosity
and a favorite to watch.  This year will certainly be a battle for points.
When you get this many great competitors together in one tournament,
points will be tough to come by.  The first tournament of the season had
about 177 competitors, the second had almost 300, what pray tell will the
third tournament bring?  You better be there to see the excitement, is all I
can say.
M.M.A.S.C. Spring Fling Tournament - 3/21/09
The M.M.A.S.C. Spring Fling Tournament held at the beautiful Oasis Inn and
Convention Center in Springfield MO was another smooth tournament in the
serious of 12 on top for 2009!

With nearly 175 competitors in attendance, the day did not hold a boring
moment. How great it was too see how the kids all mix and mingle. The most
noted was the junior girls. They cheered each other on from the sidelines,
hugged like best friends after each fight and still maintained their
competitive edge. No one’s feelings got hurt, they come there to take care
of business. Adult and kids divisions alike, fight and compete in the ring like
there is no tomorrow, but outside the ring, it’s all high fives and hugs. Top
School went to Ozzie's Crew with 36 competitors, next was Karate Zone from
Joplin, 26 competitors and Top Mount a close third with 25. Thanks to
everyone for your support!  Hang on tight!  This is going to be a very
exciting tournament season!!!!
